The next chapter in Stoke Park’s 1,000-year history has begun. Some places are built. Others are simply cared for.

For a thousand years, Stoke Park has opened its gates to kings and poets, to sportsmen and film-makers — each adding a chapter of their own. Thomas Gray wrote his Elegy beneath its trees. 007 once matched Goldfinger shot for shot on these very fairways. A Mansion built for glorious views. A golf course whose 7th hole crossed the Atlantic to inspire Augusta’s 16th — home to some of the Masters’ most dramatic finishes. A lake that has caught the same light since Capability Brown — who rewrote the English garden itself, the same hand behind Blenheim Palace and Chatsworth, England’s most celebrated stately homes — laid it out in 1750, its gardens redrawn forty years later by Humphry Repton, responsible for some of the finest country estates in England.

Today, that privilege of care passes to us. Walk the grounds today, and you’ll find the same quiet each hand before us worked to keep.

Ours is a task that celebrates this rich history, while forming new traditions for the future — not to reinvent Stoke Park, but to tend it: tree by tree, room by room, so that what has endured for a thousand years might endure for a thousand more.

Set among 300 acres of glorious parkland, lakes, historic gardens and monuments, at the heart of the estate is the beautiful Grade I listed historic Mansion, with the more contemporary Pavilion, a short walk away.

The world-famous golf course encircles the hotel — the same grounds Estate Director Alex Millar has cared for over 35 years, continuity you can feel underfoot as much as see in the fairways. These are grounds with serious pedigree: laid out by Lancelot “Capability” Brown (1716–1783), the most celebrated landscape architect of his age, whose 170-plus commissions include Blenheim Palace, Chatsworth and Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey), then refined a generation later by Humphry Repton. Stoke Park remains a haven of tranquillity, calm settling the moment you’re through the gates.
